Love is in the air.  I know it is because every newspaper and television ad had heart shaped jewelry displayed.  Some with diamonds and rubies and garnets and rhinestones and some plain gold or silver.  Those ads which didn’t show heart shaped jewelry were filled with chocolate hearts.  Every February 14th is set aside to express our love.  Then on February15, we start counting the days until the next year when we again express our love.

Our society is a hurry up, throw it away when I no longer want/need it, fast food, short term memory type of society.  I guess that’s why we have to set aside a day to say “I love you” to someone we love; a day to give thanks for our family, friends and many blessings; a day to recognize the sacrifices of soldiers and sailors; a day to honor our mothers and another to honor our fathers and yet another to honor the grandparents.  We have a day set aside to honor trees (Arbor Day) and another to honor the flag.  But let’s get back to this thing called love!

Back in the 1950’s my grandmother read all the current ladies’ magazines.  I liked to read and spent many blissful hours reading the stories and articles. I don’t remember the name of this particular one or who wrote it but it impressed me.  One of the short stories had all the leaders of every country in the world gather for a meeting.  The meeting was to solve the problems of all the countries using the newly activated, most powerful computer in the world.  At this meeting, every leader wrote down every problem they had.  All of these problems were then input into  this building-sized computer and the GO button was pushed.  It would take six months for the computer to analyze all the data and come up with the solution to all the world’s problems.  Another meeting was scheduled for six months in the future.  At  the appointed time, everyone returned to the meeting room.  They sat around a really big table and waited anxiously as the computer completed its assigned task with whirring, swishing and blinking lights.  Then, silently, a slip of paper appeared in the slot in the middle of the computer.  An attendant quickly walked over to the computer, picked up  the piece of paper and carried it to the elected head of the gathering.  He adjusted his glasses, read the words printed there and handed the piece of paper to the leader on his left.  Each person read it and passed the paper to the left.  Once the paper had gone all around the table, the elected head of the gathering, read the words aloud for all those gathered to hear:

“LOVE  ONE ANOTHER”

This story and those words have stayed with me for some 50 plus years now.  I believe them.  To end all wars, to end crime, poverty, unwanted children, and all the other ills of this planet—just love one another.  Love all races, embrace all differences, defend all ideals, honor all customs.  Why can’t we?  Why can’t we know that my way is the best for me and your way is best for you and we can meet to share a moment of joy in each other’s company and then continue on our way?

We were driving on a long, straight highway in Texas, enroute to our son’s home.  They sky was filled with dark, water laden clouds to the north of us.  As I drove towards these clouds, I noticed that there was a quiet, rose pink cloud between the darker ones.  I’m sure that a meteorologist would explain about lights and vapor and such.  Fortunately, the highway had no other traffic and I was able to see this vision without endangering self or other travelers.  But I saw the rose pink of the rose quartz in that cloud and I knew that it was filled with love.  In my mind’s eye, I saw that cloud growing larger and larger until it spread all over the state of Texas, then the country, then the planet.  Instead of opening up and spilling rain showers below, it opened up and spread love all over the planet and its people.  I could hear people murmur as their eyes beheld their neighbors with love; I could see soldiers of every country looking in amazement at their weapons then laying them down as they smiled warmly at one who had been an enemy and was no more.

I know that it is possible to LOVE ONE ANOTHER.  I believe we as individuals opening to the Light can do this.  We must start with ourselves.  We must first love our self; to forgive our self for all real and perceived wrongs we have done; then we must forgive all others for real and perceived wrongs.  Then we can love, truly love one another.

Then we won’t have to wait another year to turn to the person sitting next to us and with an open heart, saying truthfully, I love you.  Or give heart shaped jewelry with  diamonds, rubies, garnets or other gem stones to convince someone they are loved.  I’m ready for this, won’t you join me.

P.S.  I Love YOU!
